Till 17th February – Just Sing What You Feel at The Ian Potter Centre, NGV Australia, Federation Square 10am till 5pm.
Families can watch, listen or sing and record Melbourne artist Jon Campbell’s ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ song in the interactive karaoke booth, create a backyard experience using colourful drawings, imagine their own special word and illustrate it on a flag, which can be taken home or left in the gallery as part of a large installation of flags. www.ngv.vic.gov.au


Till 3rd February – Midsumma Festival
Since 1988, the Midsumma Festival has been Victoria's premier gay and lesbian arts and cultural festival, presenting an annual community celebration and encouraging the development of innovative artistic content and a unique cultural experience. There are only a few days left of this festival culminating in the Pride March along Fitzroy Street on 3rd Feb at 2pm and finishing with a party in Catani Gardens. Friday 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd – Abbotsford Suppermarket, 1 St Heliers Street, Melbourne.

Fridays 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd – Qigong (a sort of Tai Chi combining integrated movement, mental cultivation and regulated breathing) – Main Square at Federation Square 8am – 9am

Sundays 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th – Scarecrow Making at the Pop Up Patch 11am-12pm which is a vegetable garden on the Federation Square car park rooftop. Bring along old clothes but otherwise all materials provided for the kid to make their own scarecrows.


Sunday 3rd – Hobsons Bay Summer Sounds live music event at The Rotunda, Commonwealth Reserve, Williamstown

Tuesday 5th and all Tuesdays till 26th March – Salsa Dancing lessons in Federation Square near the Melbourne Visitors Centre 5.30pm - 7pm


Wednesday 6th and every Wed till 13th March – Zumba at St Pauls Court in Federation Square between 1pm -2pm. Most people probably know what Zumba is these days but if not, it’s a dancing exercise type of class to fairly vigorous music.


Wednesday 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th – Suzuki Night Market at the Queen Victoria Market, located at corner of Victoria and Elizabeth Streets 5pm till 10pm. Great live music and not your normal market type stalls. Code One are apparently playing on 13th – this is my wifes’ favourite band!


Thursdays from 7th Feb till 14th March – Yoga at The Edge in Federation Square, 1pm-2pm.


Thursday 7th - Big Screen Gaming
Challenge your friends and beat your high score with free gaming sessions on the Big Screen at Fed Square 6pm-9pm – game today is Angry Birds


Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th – Organ Recital at St Michaels Church at 120 Collins Street. 1pm-1.30pm


Saturday 9th – Summer Latin Festival at Federation Square 11am-9pm. Lots of family events here from circus inspired roving performances, parades, music and dancing.


Saturday 9th – Musical Melodies in the Park with some of Australia’s leading musical theatre performers . 7.30 at Airdrie Park, Airdrie Road, Malvern East. Bring a picnic. www.stonnington.vic.gov.au

Thursdays 14th and 28th - Feel Young
Drawing from ancient Chinese traditions this combines gentle exercise and dance – The Atrium in Federation Square 11am – 11.45am
