All events are free with no booking required. Obviously outdoor events are subject to weather conditions permitting.

Friday 1st – Abbotsford Suppermarket, 1 St Heliers Street, Melbourne.
A great twilight market from 6pm-10pm with live music and roaming performers such as clowns, acrobats and magicians as well as the stalls. Unfortunately it's the last one of the year. www.free-things-to-do-melbourne.com/abbotsford-suppermarket.html


Friday 1st-3rd - Melbourne Ukulele Festival Lots of free music here and even free workshops. See www.muf.org.au


Fridays 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd – Qigong (a sort of Tai Chi combining integrated movement, mental cultivation and regulated breathing) – Main Square at Federation Square 8am – 9am


Saturday 2nd – Viva Youth Festival starting 11am-6pm there's loads of music, pool party with giant inflatables, skate and basketball competitons, games and loads more. It's at Prahran's Princess Gardens. www.stonnington.vic.gov.au/events/viva-youth-festival/


Saturday 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th - Chinese Dance Classes outside the Melbourne Chinese Museum at Cohen Place 10.30-11.30am. Suitable all ages.


Sundays 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st – Scarecrow Making at the Pop Up Patch 11am-12pm which is a vegetable garden on the Federation Square car park rooftop. Bring along old clothes but otherwise all materials provided for the kids to make their own scarecrows.


Sunday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st Gypsy Jazz on the Village Green at CERES. Starts 1pm. Join in or like most people, just watch! www.ceres.org.au


Sunday 3rd and 17th – Laughter Club at Federation Square by Swanston Street 11am – 11.30am


Monday 4th – Classics at Fed Square featuring Victoria Police Band at The Edge, Federation Square 12noon-1pm.


Tuesdays 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th – Tai Chi in Main Square at Federation Square 7.30am – 8.30am


Tuesdays 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th – Meditation in The Atrium at Federation Square 12.30-1pm


Tuesday 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th – Salsa Dancing lessons in Federation Square near the Melbourne Visitors Centre (St Pauls Court) 5.30pm - 7pm


Wednesday 6th and 13th – Zumba at St Pauls Court in Federation Square between 1pm -2pm. Most people probably know what Zumba is these days but if not, it’s a dancing exercise type of class to fairly vigorous music.


Wednesday 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th – Suzuki Night Market at the Queen Victoria Market, located at corner of Victoria and Elizabeth Streets 5pm till 10pm. Great live music and not your normal market type stalls.


Thursdays 7th and 14th – Yoga at The Edge in Federation Square, 1pm-2pm.


Thursday 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th – Organ Recital at St Michaels Church at 120 Collins Street. 1pm-1.30pm


Friday 8th-Monday 11th - Moomba Festival
Moomba is probably Melbourne's biggest festival. It's held on four days over Labour Day long weekend. Events normally include a parade, live music with four stages, waterski-ing and wakeboarding competitions on the Yarra river, a Birdman Rally where the contestants try to fly across the river in their costumes or home made flying machines, kids entertainment in the Children’s Garden where they can dress up in costumes, watch magicians, join in workshops, make sandcastles and lots more! , take part in skateboarding and BMX biking competitions in Riverslide Skate Park and finishing off with fireworks on the bank of the Yarra river. Monday 11th - Learn Crochet at The Square in Federation Square 12-2pm


Thursdays 14th and 28th - Feel Young
Drawing from ancient Chinese traditions this combines gentle exercise and dance – The Atrium in Federation Square 11am – 11.45am


Saturday 16th – Poetry – 2 feature poets and the opportunity to read out your own at The Atrium in Federation Square 2pm – 4pm


Saturday 16th - Freestyle Dance Academy jam session - Join in or just watch these great dancers. 4pm-6pm Federation Square


Saturday 16th - Flavours - Cooking demonstrations, multicultural music and dancing, facepainting, arts and crafts, jumping castle and lots more. 11am-4pm Grattan Gardens, Grattan Street, Prahran www.stonnington.vic.gov.au/events/flavours


Sunday 17th - Thai Culture and Food Festival - Entertainment for the whole family includes Thai cultural performances of dance, live music, puppetry, Thai Beauty contest, cooking and fruit carving demonstrations. 10am-9pm at Federation Square www.thaifestvic.com


Sunday 24th - Viva Victoria Festival - A one-day festival of spectacular musical and dance performances at Federation Square to celebrate our multiculturalism. There's plenty of kids activities too. www.multicultural.vic.gov.au


Monday 25th - Learn Knitting at The Square at Federation Square 12-2pm


Friday 29th till 21st April - Melbourne International Comedy Festival see details about the free (very) Big Laugh Out at www.comedyfestival.com.au


Sunday 31st – Classic Car Club featuring Vintage Car Club of Victoria 11am – 2.30pm on Flinders Street section of Federation Square by ACMI
